BEAT YOUR SUGAR CRAVINGS!
There’s no denying sugar tastes good, but it doesn’t have any nutritional benefit to our body. On the contrary it actually depletes the vitamins and minerals we consume through other foods.

If you eat a diet high in sugar you will experience erratic blood glucose levels – you will have periods of feeling highly energised followed by periods of sluggishness called hypoglycaemia. You then crave sugar to ‘lift’ you up again.

Hypoglycaemia symptoms include fatigue, irritability, headaches, depression and anxiety. PMS, weight gain and a big appetite may also be symptoms of blood glucose imbalance.

To rebalance your blood glucose levels and to curb sugar cravings I recommend the following tips:
  • Eat complex carbohydrates which are high in fibre and release glucose into your blood stream slowly ensuring you will have balanced energy levels and brain power. Complex carbohydrate foods include oats, whole grain wheat cereals and breads, rye bread, brown (basmati) rice, wholemeal pasta, vegetables, lentils and beans.
  • Avoid refined carbohydrates such as white breads, white pasta, white rice, refined breakfast cereals, cakes, biscuits.
  • Avoid sugar altogether and limit fruit to 2-3 times a day.
  • Always eat meals and snacks which are a combination of both carbohydrate and protein e.g. fruit with a handful of nuts, cereal with milk, brown rice with chicken or salmon.
  • Eat little and often to maintain your blood glucose levels throughout the day.
  • Drink plenty! Sometimes feeling hungry is actually a sign that your body needs a drink.
  • Take a good quality chromium supplement to balance your blood sugar levels, normalise hunger and reduce cravings.
Sugar cravings may also be an indication of an underlying digestive problem. To find out more or for further help in beating your cravings please contact me.
